There is nothing worse than realizing your next shopping trip will be strictly for “work clothes”. Sure, everyone loves to shop. However, when it comes down to it nobody really prefers spending their well-earned money on clothes they will only wear to the office. Choosing between that strappy gold heel and that neutral flat may possibly be the hardest thing to do.
No need to worry, here are a few tips on how to shop for classic, fashionable, trendy and, most importantly, transitional pieces that will work not only for the office but for a night out on the town!
- Keep in mind that office attire should always consist of very classic and straight silhouettes. This is not to say that you can’t add a little bit of your own personality. This fall/winter pencil skirts and, yes even bold colors, will be trending. Try to find a nice fitting pencil skirt in any color or pattern, but remember to try to keep it more on the darker side. Also be conscious of the length, if you have to constantly keep pulling it down when you walk then it is probably not office appropriate. Not only is a pencil skirt great for the office but it is also a great transitional piece. Paired up with the right shoe and blouse you can turn that office skirt into a great night outfit as seen below.
- When it comes to shoes, a good transitional and always classic choice is a nice pump. The classic black and nude color is great for those hard to match pieces. Feeling bold?! Try colors such as red or blue to make your shoe your statement piece.
- Go easy on the accessories! Don’t feel like you need to wear every piece of jewelry to make a statement. Office attire can sometimes seem boring and plain, but the right amount of accessories, whether it is a bold handbag or a bold necklace, can give your outfit that instant pop. A good rule of thumb when it comes to accessories for me: Focus on one type of accessory. What I mean is if you are wearing a necklace, make that necklace the statement. Don’t wear a bold necklace with a bold bracelet and a ring on every finger.
Keep it simple, shop classic and don’t forget a statement piece!
